Mayor’s Report

I have a presentation for tonight and I will get to that in a few minutes. I think about how far we have come, and at every step we, the town have faced disappointment. Te biggest one was the fact that some people want to do away with this town. We have asked for input at every council meeting. Asked for help with different committees. Asked for help with the renovations here at the town hall, asked for help with cleaning up. At every turn the detractors are there. You put up a piece and they rip it down. Try to go forward. They push back. The Christmas parade, Halloween, and a Community day. All good ideas that need people to help. I have never seen anything like it how some people will come to a town meeting just to sit, talk during reports and never and I say never have anything positive to say. Never help, never give, but ready to complain. I showed you reports at the meeting last year, I gave a report and it is not a problem until Rick puts it in the Town newspaper for everyone to see. Same facts, same info, now it’s a problem. Remember those boards. There they are with the same info on it. I can show you where back in the earlier years where the police wrote thousands in tickets for a month and about half went to the town. Now we have accountability, and we have people that want to rip that down. We save our records. Our clerks numbers match, Dawn showed you the amount between missing tickets, then and now. Yes, we will always be considered a speed trap until we get away from this being our main source of revenue. Who created this system, who let it get out of control? To control this monster, and still keep up services has been a struggle for each one of us. Planning, Zoning and Growth all nasty words. How do you think I feel when I get a phone call from someone complaining about a mobile home being moved in on a one acre lot which already has one home on it,  and people don’t realize this is what zoning is for. Fight against zoning and then complain when something affects you. It’s time for Cottageville to do things right, and by the book, and get things ready. We are like a train on the tracks with people at each end, some pushing and some pulling, and not getting anything done. Sooner or later we are going to have to work together, or we will get run over.

Thank you all.
George M. White
Mayor of Cottageville
