Town Clerk Report – April 2009
This past month has been very busy. I paid one assessment last month. I still have been graphing our local opt sales money which we receive each month. The numbers are still going down compare to the last year monies. I have applied through the NLC (National League of Cities) a prescription discount card program for the citizens of Cottageville, which the Mayor explained to you. I hope to have some more information to give to the Mayor at the May Council meeting. The Mayor and I cleaned up 3 bags of trash in front of the old elementary school, along with other debris that were left behind. Please if anyone using or you know someone who is using the basketball goals, we ask them to please don’t litter. If you look at the front of the old school, it looks very nice and we are trying to make that area around there very professional. Also I have been helping out with the chambers/courtroom at the old cafeteria building. We are coming along well on the place. Everyone will be very surprise next month, it will be a big improvement compare to where we are now. I attended a session with Rep. Clyburn on the stimulus money in Kingstree. There are many grants out there, and we are continuing working on them. I meet with Elizabeth Allen who helped me with a sidewalk grant. The grant for sidewalks was turned in on March 30. We are now working on a PARD grant which is through the Parks and Recreation Development fund for a walk trail that we would like to have in front of the old elementary school. I sent out business licenses application, also sent out an additional 15 business application for other persons that are doing business in the Town of Cottageville. I have started to collect on the money on the licenses. The deadline for the licenses is April 15th, after that there will be a 5% penalty charge for each month that is late. I meet with Terry Jones from Identity Thief Shield on Red Flag. Mr. Jones will be helping me to comply with the federal laws of identity thief at no cost to the Town. We held a mandatory training class for the employees, and I will have him speaking to Council at the retreat. I am working on the 2009-2010 budget, which council received their worksheets on their committees tonight. I also have been asked to serve on the Ad hoc committee for Census 2010 participation by the Mayor which is thru the Colleton County Planning and Development.
