MAYOR’s REPORT:

This is the June Mayor’s Meeting report which will be given Monday night. Along with this report will be a short financial presentation on the May revenue figures;

Budget- Tonight we will have the first reading of our 2008-2009 budget. This is a good budget which I feel that a lot of hard work went into it. Our budget has improvements in the technology area of the police and staff. We have planned on monies for the old elementary school when the transition is made to that facility. Our biggest question is the price of gas. I have requested the police officers limit their personal use of the police cars. I have the new officer on a “ to and from work” use of the car.

Police cars- In the budget we have two new police cars being ordered. These are the new flex fuel cars. Paul’s car is an example of one and we have had great results with this car. The new cars have been ordered for the next fiscal year, they will be white and marked. We will be saving enough on the gas price between the new cars mileage savings and the selling the old help offset the price of the cars payment.

Ordinance review-I am currently reviewing the Town ordinance book. I will be requesting some changes in the book starting tonight. These paragraphs contradict the use of the employee’s handbook and I am requesting some changes there.

Litter pick-up-The first round of trash pick-up went will. Paul will probably have more to tell you on his report. Paul also came up with a very good idea in reporting littering. Please report any littering that you see to the Police until we get this program implemented.

Ground water testing report to engineer- I just got the new test data on the 2008 sampling report this past week. It was forwarded to Frank Brockington for evaluation. I will be meeting with the ground water engineer later this month.

Storm water request for plan to Ken Smoak, he is the Engineer in association with Frank Brockington.

I attended the LCOG board meeting on Thursday night. Grant deadlines were announced for some Community Development areas which we will be applying for.

Terri Crosby has received her Certified Municipal Clerk certification. This is a proud moment for Cottageville. There are only 36 CMC in the 135 Municipalities Statewide. This only shows the effort our employees are putting forth with their training and Certification. I feel that education will eliminate a lot of the problems that we have had in the past. I do want to thank Terri for her work on the budget this month and for the completion of the T-21 Grant application for new signage and street lights. She did all this while recovering from Back surgery.

I will be approaching CCTC on the shape of peirce road this month. This will be the third time I have approached them. I hope that council and town members will support me by turning out for this meeting. This road is in terrible shape. All I am asking is the same consideration afforded to any school that is built in the Walterboro area. Please let these people know that you are concerned. I have a sign in sheet and if you are interested in coming to the June 12 meeting at 6:00p.m. p[lease sign up.

Thank you to Staff and Council for their work this month with budget and grant concerns this month.

George M. White
